Apollo, Apollo, Apollo!!! This buck was one of our first bucks when we started. I was at this time looking for a buck on craigslist, a pygmy buck. Someone was selling him $50 because the person believed he was a pygmy. I thought it was an odd pygmy with blue eyes, and the man then handed to me papers, letting me know that he was a Pygmy/Nigerian Dwarf buck. The man in question was selling him because he wanted to go for Nigerian Dwarf Goats with blue eyes.
I was not much aware of Pygmies and Nigerians as much of course, and I took him home. Figured he would do the job with the Registered Pygmies we had then…
Low and behold, on my way home, Abigail and I read the papers and found out he was a Registered Nigerian Dwarf Buck!
This buck was going to be sold and WE ARE SO GLAD we held on to him and that no one bought him!!! Apollo has been the healthiest (With Heart's Desire Desi) on our land. He just doesn't get phased. He was raised mostly on land, on his own, and was wild. He is a lot more connected to us humans now, (even so, not as much as we'd like).
Anytime we have had issues on our farm with our goats, depending on the season, year, humidity or worms, he is just outstanding.
We just didn't realize how awesome he is. We were always hesitant to let go of him until we saw his daughter milking. We liked his sturdiness and at the same time felt he was so "stocky-ish", very solid buck.
That said, you can tell, we are happy with him.
